BMW E70 chassis dynamics

If a lateral tyre force to the wheel, brake or acceleration force (tangentially tires) can maximum force (resultant force on surface) to build up only in longitudinal direction up to a total. If this is reached, the parking brakes or spins. On the other hand, only a limited lateral cornering force (lateral tires) can be reached brakes. If this value is exceeded, the wheel in a sideways direction slips. This causes that the vehicle to skid. When a braking force enters into force, the comb can be set up the complete lateral cornering force in accordance with the radius of the circle.

The full braking or acceleration force can be produced in the same way, if the vehicle straight ahead (again accordingly leaves the RADIUS). This relationship shows that acceleration or braking, which is too fast under curves to slip, can, cause the vehicle as any longitudinal load on the wheel, whether it is used to accelerate or brake, a failure of lateral cornering forces inevitably. The radius of the circle of the crest depends on the coefficient of friction between the tires and the road, i.e. on the tires, the road and the road conditions. If the road is wet, such as the RADIUS is significantly smaller than if the road is dry.
